Posted by General | Posted on 13-07-2017
| Posted inKyten Jones in the 30-car and Vern Huson in the 77-car are only two points difference between 3rd place and 4th place. Kyten Jones has been holding his own this 2017 season. Holding his line, staying focused and racing his heart out. Kyten Jones is currently in 3rd place with a total of 340-points. He has been to every race, his pit crew working right along with Kyten too make sure his car is in top shape and keeping him encouraging.
Vern Huson in the 77-car has been to every race as well, currently in 4th place with a total of 338-points. Vern’s been racing fast trying to move up in positon, to claim first place. He had a bit of trouble in the Evergreen Main event, which cost him laps. But being the sportsman that he is, he will show-up at the South Sound Speedway race and put on great show the fans will remember.
Mike Clother in the 7-car hasn’t missed a race in years. Mike has been racing with Vintage Modifieds since 1995 and has Seven Vintage Modified Championships under his belt. Mike served many different positions on the board. Always a great sportsman. Mike is currently in 5th place with a total of 330-points. Some trivia about Mike Clother, he has also raced at the Bonneville Salt Flats and was clocked at the speed of 160 MPH.
Adam Bragdon in the 28-car is holding 6th place with a total of 291-points. Adam was the 2016 Rooking of the Year. Coming back in 2017 racing much stronger then the previous year. Adam shows-up with a great attitude, and always displays great sportsmanship. A huge thank you to Adams pit crew, Danelle Knapp and MOM – Julie Phelps.
7th place is being held by Chris Cook in the 1-car. Chris has a total of 264-points. This is his first season with VMRA and has already been out promoting the club. Chris and his crew went to a car show in Port Angeles, handed out posters and advertised Vintage Modified on his truck. Thank you Chris for always being a positive member, inspite of the car troubles you’ve come across.
Jim Jones driving the 03-car held a couple years champtionships with VMRA, took a couple years off and is now back behind the wheel. Jim owns ‘Jim Jones Trucking’ and is a returning sponsor for Vintage Modifieds. He began racing in 1997, his first class was the ‘Sky Valley Modifieds’. His first year with VMRA was in 2004. Right now Jim is in 8th place with a total of 255-points. It is good to have you back Jim Jones and your pit crew.
Dominick Hunter in the 18-car is the 2017 Rookie. Dominick has 160-points and is in 9th place. This young rookie shows a lot of promise, he doesn’t seem to get rattled. He holds his line when necessary and shows respect and sportsmanship when the lead cars approach and gives ground. Due to his busy work schedule Dominick has not been able to make every race; however, his determination comes with him at every race he can attend. Looking good Dominick and the 28-team.
Bob Fulmer in the 75-car came out of retirement this year to run a partial season, a season too-just-have-fun and for the thrill of being in his race car. Welcome back Bob, it is great seeing you and Phyllis again. Bob was a force to be reckoned with during his serious days of racing. Bob has won many races in 1st place, broke track records; he even took his car up on two wheels at South Sound Speedway between turns 2 and 3 before landing back on all fours. What a memorable night of racing. Glad to see you back Bob, in 10th place and a total of 123-points.
Rick Villard in the 2-car is new this year with VMRA. He currently holds the 11th position and has a total of 114-points. We hope to see him race South Sound Speedway on July 22nd. Unfortunately, I don’t have bragging stats for this driver, yet. Welcome Rick Villard and your pit crew.
Dawn Huntley in the 59-car holds the 12th position with 111-points. He first began racing in 1980 with ‘Dirt Modifieds’, and joined VMRA in 2012. Dawn brings a lot of positive energy to racing. If you need a helping hand, Dawn is there. Always trying to find ways to bring cars out, promoting the club. The Huntley teams were out promoting the club recently at a car show, I will post pictures when they are available. Thank you to the Huntley teams for all the great things you are doing to keep VMRA in a great direction.
Jeff Huntley drives the 14-car and holds 13th place with 104-points. Jeff is running a partial season this year as well. Jeff’s first year of racing was with Vintage Modifieds back in 2015. Jeff, along with his brother Dawn, are the owners of ‘2Bros Construction Company’ and sponsors of Vintage Modifieds. Thank you for your dedication and sponorship to VMRA.
Robert Rux in the 88-car has raced only 2-races this year. The official first race (the first two were called rain-outs) of the season he blew his engine, taking him out of the season right off. His second race was filling in for the 61-team. Robert has been racing with Vintage Modifieds since 2000. He plans to finish the season thanks to the Huntley teams! Robert is in 14th place with 99-points.
Aaron Clother in the 54-car is one of our Spokane drivers. It is always wonderful when our Spokane teams can make a race. Aaron is in 16th place with 62-points. He began racing in 2002 with ‘Bump-2-Pass’ and joined VMRA in 2015.
Chuck Peterson is one of our founding members of Vintage Modified Racing Association. He has been racing with VMRA since day one back in 1986. He first got involved with racing in 1969 . Went to watch a drag race, did not like it. Watched a stock race and then Chuck got involved with racing. Chuck has been voted ‘Sportsman’ by his peers many years in a row. Unfortunately, this has not been his best year for racing. His car has broke down three races in a row. Even with that string of bad luck, Chuck still maintains a great attitude and is a full supporter of VMRA. Thank you for all you bring to the club Chuck. He is currently in 17th place with 60-points. Chuck, along with his son Jeff, race in the 23 and 32 cars.
Kevin Burley, from Omak Washington, drives the 61-car. What started his racing hobby back in 2002 with the ‘Hornets’. He was the Wenatchee Valley Super Oval Champion in 2002. He came over to Vintage Modifieds in 2016. Kevin’s occupation is ‘Hot Rod / Auto Restoration and Upholstery’. Currently in 18th place with 57-points.
I have no pictures or information on the last, but not least, #10-car. Owner Steve Lang is new to VMRA this year. He has 45-points and is in 19th place. We hope to see Steve at the next race. Which will be at South Sound Speedway on July 22nd.
It is going to be an interesting night of racing; because, not only are the Vintage Modifieds racing but the line-up includes the Big Rigs and the Baby Grands.

Evergreen Speedway July 8th, 2017 – #6 Devin Eireman 1st – #27 Vince Conwell 2nd – #26 John Mustered 3rd
What a wonderful night of racing. First of all, the Main Event was led by the 27-car for the majority of the laps. Devin in the 6-car started in the back of the line-up. John Mustered in the 26-car and Kyten Jones in the 30-car held their spots and raced for first position. After a couple of caution flags Devin was able to make his move and take the lead. It was a fun race to watch from the stands. Unfortunately, for Adam Bragdon in the 28-car, going into lap-4 he spun out between turn two and three and had to be pushed of the track. Thankfully, there was no damage to his car! A few more laps into the Main Event Vern Huson in the 77-car tangled with Jim Jones in the 03-car causing the second caution of the race. Congratulations to our three top drivers of the Main Event at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe
Devin Eierman in now in 2nd place with a total of 353-points. Devin is pictured with the trophy girl, his dad Robert and lovely wife MariAnne.
Vince Conwell was racing in the 27-car. Vince hasn’t been behind the wheel of an Open Modified before so this was an awesome experience for him. Not only coming in second place for the Main Event; but also taking first place in the A-Heat race. Vince was filling in for Ken Kaltchmidt who is currently in 1st place with a total of 364-points. Great job Vince! Vince is pictured with the trophy girl and his amazing family; who all came out to support his first Vintage race. Congratulations Vince for a great evening of racing.
I don’t know what it is about Evergreen Speedway, but John Mustered (aka Johnny Lightning) in the 26-car always takes home a trophy from this track. John sold his orange 26-car before the season even began so he hasn’t raced all season. He bought that beautiful 1939 Hudson from Chuck Peterson just in-time to come out and race here at Monroe Speedway and then comes in 3rd place for the Main Event. John’s race was sponsored by the Harrison Street Band, 2-old dudes and 1-hot MaMa. Congratulations Johnny Lightning for fun night of racing. Taking home another trophy for his trophy room.
