Here we are, another season has come to an end, it is time for all the teams to make plans for the next season. The last race was at South Sound Speedway, with Jeff Peterson taking home the Main Event trophy and Bobby Wheeler, Jr ending the season as the 2011 VMRA champion.

The last race ended with a family BBQ, sponsored by the 88 team. All VMRA teams were invited to join in on the great food, music and family fun. Here are a few photos of the event, thank you to the 88 team for hosting the season end BBQ.

It was a great season for Bobby Wheeler, Jr and the 22 team. Bobby is the 2011 Vintage Modified Champion, ending the season with 693 points.

Bobby started racing in 1973 with the car class A Quarter Midget. His first year with VMRA was in 1994. Bobby said, “It’s the fastest car for the money. Drove my dad’s car once and was hooked.” Back in the day Bobby’s favorite track was Hermiston, because it is fast and challenging.

Bobby’s car is a 1939 Chevy with a 350 engine. Bobby’s crew chief is Ken Wolf. Bobby Wheeler, Jr. was the season champion for Vintage Modified Racing Association in 2004, 2005 and now again in 2011.

September 24, 2011 was a night to remember at South Sound Speedway. The weather held out and the rain did not start until long after the race ended.

There was a lot of excitement for the Peterson teams, Chuck Peterson was racing car 23 and Jeff Peterson was racing car 28 for the Vintage Modifieds; another member of the Peterson clan was also racing this night. Young Kelton Peterson was also racing at South Sound Speedway Saturday night. Kelton was in a Mercury Capri, Bumble Bee class also running with the same number as his grandfather, Chuck Peterson, number 23.

Jeff Peterson came in 5th position in the B Heat and 1st place in the Main Event. Congratulations Jeff for yet another Main Event win for Vintage Modifieds. This is a proud night for Jeff and Chuck Peterson; Kelton joined the Armed Forces and was leaving for the Marines on Sunday, September 25th. It was very exciting having these three men all together at South Sound Speedway. Pictured, lower right, is Kelton, the son of Jeff, and the grandson of Chuck Peterson.

The racing season is over for the Vintage Modifieds, but the friendships live on through out the year. Thank you everyone for making this a great year of racing.

Back Gate opens at 1:00 pm. Front Gate opens at 4:45 pm. Racing begins at 6:30 pm. South Sound does not accept debit or credit cards, make sure you have enough cash on hand.

The rain clouds were hanging heavy overhead as all of the Vintage teams waited patiently to hit the track. Due to the high risk of rain the Vintage Modifieds Main Event was ran first, with the two heat races following.

Congratulations to Jim Jones and the 03 team for taking home the Main Event trophy from Evergreen Speedway in Monroe Saturday the 17th.

Bob Fulmer - 75, came in second place for the Main Event. Another exciting night of racing for the Vintage Modifieds.

Bobby Wheeler - 22, came in third for the Main Event. Bobby is currently in 1st place for the 2011 Season.

The next, and last race of 2011 season, will be at South Sound Speedway on September 24th.
