| Posted inThe following members were voted in by their peers in 2016, as being exceptional and recognized for putting forth their best in 2016.
Devin Eierman in the #6 car, not only took home 1st place, but received the vote for Best Appearing car. The #6 car always looked good. Has a very nice paint job. A very neat and clean car.
Robert Rux in the #88 car took home the Sportsman of the Year award. Robert was recognized by his peers because they never seen him loose his cool, no matter what transpired, on or off the track. Always smiling (a little). Robert does a lot for the club, its members and the drivers. He steps up too the challenges and does what is necessary for the betterment of the club and the members.
Jeff Huntley in the #14 car was presented with the Hard Luck award. Jeff had a very hard luck year, on and off the track. Had break downs a few times heading out of town to a variety of tracks. Blew up his motors. Not too mention, Jeff was ran over by a Suburban. Glad you are doing better Jeff and look forward to seeing you back on top in 2017.
Adam Bragdon received not only the Rookie of 2016, but he was voted in as Most Improved Driver. Adam Bragdon, in the 28-car is new to VMRA. He brought a lot of positive energy with him. Always positive. Always willing to lend a hand when needed. Adam brought to the track a 1941 Plymouth with a 302 engine. He had some great mentors to get him started. Bob Fulmer as his crew chief and Bob Monroe as his pit crew. Adam started out slow and ended the season running fast. He went from being lapped at the beginning of the season, to running fast and competivive by the end of the season.
Adam came in 7th place with a total of 382 points, and that is with missing the last couple of races due to his car breaking down.
Micki Rux received the Most Inspirational Person (non-driver) award. It is an honor to receive this award, to be thought of so kindly by your peers is very encouraging. Micki handled most of the sales of the t-shirts, hats and VMRA patches, with the help of Helen Rose. Micki works hard in the pits getting information to the tower about the racing teams and information to the teams from the tower. She kept the driver and their pit crews well fed through out the season.
Helen Rose was recognized for volunteering with all the fundraisers. She was presented with this Thank-You plaque for her volunteer services. Helen assisted in the sales of shirts and hats. She also made sure the food tables were prepared with plates, napkins and silverware.
Thank you Leonard Schmidt for your 10-years service to VMRA. Your dedication to the board and the club has been outstanding. Leonard has been the board president and the board treasurer. Leonard donated VMRA patches to the top 10 trophy winners. Behind every great man is a great women. In recognition too Leonard, he could not have donated so many years to VMRA if it weren’t for the support of his lovely wife, Shirley. So thank you Leonard and Shirley Schmidt for your dedication to VMRA.
Thank you too Ken Jackson for your mechanical support, your tech support and for your tire support; on and off the track. Ken is always one of the first to offer help to any team that is need of support. He was a great help on tire day, mounting tires for the teams as they picked up their 2016 tires. On the track providing tech support. Offer mechanical support, bringing a tool for all needs to every race.
